Key Components Of A Camera Cleaning Kit

Posted on

One of your responsibilities as a camera owner is to take proper care of your camera body and whatever lenses you own. Some of this equipment can be a significant investment, so it's important to keep it in good condition. One of the best ways that you can care for your camera is with a camera cleaning kit, which you can buy at any camera shop. Most camera owners keep this kit in their camera bag, as this will provide easy access to it whenever there's a need. Camera cleaning kits can vary a little in what they offer, but you should look for one that at least has these things.

Air Blower

An air blower is a simple device that is highly effective for keeping your camera clean. This device is typically made of rubber and has an oval shape with a nozzle at one end. You use the air blower by squeezing it. As you squeeze, you force air out of the nozzle. The air blower can work well for removing small particles that are on the glass of your lenses. For example, if you notice a piece of lint or something similar, you can often remove it with the air blower. This is better than blowing on the lens with your mouth, as small particles of saliva could also end up on the glass.

Microfiber Cloths

A cleaning kit should also contain a selection of small microfiber cloths. The microfiber material is ideal in this application because it doesn't create lint. Often, these cloths will come in a sealed pouch inside of the camera cleaning kit, which will ensure that they don't collect dust. While your air blower can fix small issues, there may be things that get stuck to your lenses that won't come off with air. In such instances, you'll want to grab a microfiber cloth to gently wipe at the lens.

Cleaning Solution

You should also look for a camera cleaning kit that contains a small bottle of cleaning solution. You don't want to use general household cleaners on your camera, as they could cause damage. A bottle of cleaning solution will allow you to thoroughly clean the outer surfaces of your camera and lenses. Over time, they can acquire various types of grime that can coat the buttons and switches. A small amount of cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth will remove this grime and give your equipment a like-new appearance.
