6 Must-Have Photographs Of Your Wedding Dress

Posted on

Your wedding dress is one of the most important elements of the big day. And that means it deserves special attention from the photographer. How can you and your photographer ensure that you capture all the great features of your dress and how it makes you feel? Here are a few important photos you may want to work with them to get.

1. Admiring the Dress. Carve out a moment between getting ready and putting on the dress, and enjoy it on its hanger. This moment should be very personal and intimate, often including no other individuals, but you may opt to involve others.

2. Close-Up Details. Wedding photographers often want to spend some time with just the dress before or after the bride puts it on. This is the time to photograph its small details, such as the beading, embroidery, motifs, shapes, and ruffles. They will likely take photos of individual details as well as groups of small details together.

3. Laid Out Accessories. The bridal accessories are usually beautiful both on their own and once worn with the dress. Some photographers may set up accessories in interesting layouts, with props, or in different areas of the wedding festivities. They might place the shoes and bouquet together on the stairs, for instance, to give the details a great frame. Allow the photographer time and space to do this.

4. Putting On the Dress. Before you begin dressing, clean up the immediate area so your photographer can capture the act of putting on the dress. This usually involves your closest associates, a parent, or your attendants. While putting on the gown is a practical step, it photographs more like a ritual, so take your time. Great moments include stepping into the main dress, being zipped up, attendants fastening buttons, and putting on jewelry or shoes.

5. In Motion. Step out into a more open area and move around in your dress. Motion tends to photograph well and the bride will have fun, making her more relaxed. Long, flowing skirts and trains make great pictures from many moving angles.

6. With a Surprise. While every bride will have lots of posed photos in her complete wedding look, don't forget to have fun with it. Take pictures with a hint of leg appearing, showing off your unconventional shoe choice, with the train carried by your partner or attendants, with an unexpected prop, or from overhead with the entire train fanned out. A fun surprise will give the dress a whole new dimension.
